biography

Specializing on large-scale opera productions, for the past 20 years costume designer Nuria Carrasco Dominguez has designed costumes for Opera, Ballet, Theatre and Film and worked in countries such as China, England, Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Spain, France, South Africa, Australia, Qatar, Egypt, Lebanon and US. 

 

Her scenic costume design credits include international productions of Operas Madame Butterfly, Carmen, Aida, Magic Flute and collaborations with renowned institutions such as Cairo Opera House in Egypt, Timisoara Opera House, Warsaw Opera House and Ash Lawn Opera House.

NURIA CARRASCO DOMINGUEZ is an international costume designer and creative director working in Opera, Zarzuela, Ballet, Theatre, Fashion and Film.

Born in Madrid, for the past 20 years her design work has taken her to countries such as China, England, Italy, Switzerland, Poland, France, South Africa, Australia, Qatar, Egypt, Lebanon and USA. With an immense love for Opera and the Lyric world, she enjoys tremendously her work as costume designer, specializing in the Opera Field and large-scale Opera productions. 

 

Her projects range from small scale opera productions to large scale opera stadium projects with audiences up to 40,000. Nuria finds the balance between intimate low budget theatre and large scale stadium projects important and strives to maintain a continuity of aesthetic and intention across all scales of work.  As a designer she has always been committed to bringing out the visual element in music and has experimented with various means of expression in several theatrical and operatic productions.


Nuria’s costume design experience in grand-scale Opera productions for mass audiences, represented in the world’s largest venues, includes superb production of Opera Aida under the Pyramids of Giza, Egypt, in 2002, in collaboration with The Cairo Opera House, with an impressive cast of more than 800 performers on stage.


She was also the costume designer for Opera Madama Butterfly, presented at The Minolta Loftus Super stadium in Pretoria, South Africa in 2000, with an audience of 15.000 people and with a cast of more than 400 performers on the stage.


In 2002 , she designed costumes for a big scale new production of Opera Aida, commissioned by the QATAR FOUNDATION, and presented in Doha , Qatar. With over 30,000 spectators in one single night performance, the cast included 100 horses and several hundreds extras.

Nuria resides in USA, where she combines her international Opera costume design career with her work as creative director and designer for variety of TV, Film, Fashion and Fine Art related projects.
